Navigating New Norms: ChatGPT's Integration and Its Critical Reception in Higher Education
Year: 2024
Type: conference-paper
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education has introduced transformative tools like ChatGPT, which simulate human interaction and assist students in various academic tasks. This study examines the awareness, perceived effectiveness, and attitudes towards ChatGPT among business students at Sunway College and Sunway University in Malaysia. Using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework, the research explores factors influencing students' acceptance of ChatGPT, focusing on perceived usefulness (PU) and attitude towards use (ATU). Results indicate widespread awareness and positive attitudes towards ChatGPT's capabilities in aiding academic activities such as information retrieval and assignment completion. However, concerns about the tool's accuracy highlight areas for improvement. The study suggests further research to enhance ChatGPT's functionality and expand its adoption across diverse educational contexts.
