Abstract: Protected areas are crucial in combating deforestation in the Amazon, playing an essential role in conserving the tropical rainforest and maintaining vital ecosystem services for the planet. These areas, which include national parks, reserves, and indigenous lands, act as barriers against agricultural expansion and illegal logging, helping to preserve large tracts of native vegetation. Protecting these regions is critical for maintaining biodiversity, providing refuge for numerous threatened species, and contributing to climate and hydrological cycle regulation. Additionally, protected areas help mitigate climate change by sequestering large amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere, serving as important carbon sinks. They are also vital for promoting sustainable land use practices and implementing effective conservation policies. However, to ensure these areas fulfill their role, rigorous enforcement and proper resource allocation are essential. Integrating local, regional, and international efforts is necessary to strengthen their protection and ensure that the Amazon continues to play its vital role in global climate regulation and biodiversity conservation.
