“Sei quem eu sou, não sou os seus medos”: monstruosidade, categorias emocionais e autodeterminação em narrativas de mulheres trans e travestis
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: In this article, we analyze the short story “Dançando pelo céu depois de toda chuva”, which tells the story of two transgender characters, seen as monsters, going through the conicts of real transphobia and supernatural horror. We use the idea of monstrosity to show how the protagonists are presented as creatures and/or as human beings. From decolonial and transfeminist gender studies, we highlight how trans people are represented as anomalies and the supposed gender binarism. Through the Anthropology of Emotions, we analyzed the emotional categories set in the story, especially disgust, hate, fear and rage; and their relation with transgender narratives. We conclude that the representation of trans people in a human way and not as stereotypes is linked to the fact that it was written by a trans woman who, through self-determination, manages to complexify these characters and the story.
