Abstract: Oxalate salts are cheap and available reagents used in organic photochemistry as C1‐synthons, single‐electron transfer (SET) reductants, and hole scavengers. Relying on these multiple roles, a critical comparison of recent applications provides a roadmap to the diverse reductive functionalizations, highlighting the unmet challenges and the future developments.
