Abstract: The concept of the school library has evolved over time. While it has always been associated with knowledge and culture, 21st-century educational institutions expect more from it than simply being a space for reading, bibliographic consultation, and study. The current legislation (LOMLOE), in its Article 113, outlines the characteristics and functions that this environment must fulfil within educational centres; however, teachers are often unaware of the potential and learning opportunities that this space can provide. This work presents a localized study regarding teachers' knowledge and beliefs, along with other relevant aspects, about school libraries. To achieve this, a specifically designed questionnaire, validated for this purpose, was distributed among a sample of teachers in the island of Tenerife. The qualitative data derived from the questionnaire invite reflection on the use that teachers make of school libraries, as they acknowledge not being sufficiently prepared to take advantage of the benefits this educational resource offers in the teaching-learning process. This is partly due to the lack of specific training in this area.
