Abstract: Post-communist Romanian law has reintroduced the legal institution of military priests, who are both priests (members of the clergy) of a religious cult and military personnel (members of the Military Officers' Corps). Their status is both ecclesiastical, in principle ordinary as priests of a religious cult, and legal, special in relation to the ordinary legal status of military personnel. The dual status of military priests sometimes creates problems for proper relations between the state and religious cults.
