Personal Factors of Adaptive Experience of a Situation of Uncertainty

Year: 2024
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: The article presents the results of a study of experiencing uncertainty in difficult social situations related to a pandemic and a special military operation. This study revealed that tolerance to uncertainty, reflexivity as the ability to comprehend and process accumulated experience, and locus of control as a mechanism for assessing life situations act as personal resources for overcoming uncertainty. Rumination and personal rigidity act as mechanisms of autogenic shift, decreased psychosomatic well-being, and maladaptation. The study involved 200 people aged 18 to 24 years. The presence and nature of the relationship were tested using Spearman's R correlation analysis. The consequence of experiencing uncertainty is a deterioration in the subject's well-being, which is reflected in the dynamics of the autogenic shift. There is a connection of rigidity, tolerance to uncertainty, reflexivity and locus of control with the phenomenon of experiencing uncertainty, which permits to consider them as part of the system of personal factors that support adaptation mechanisms and psychosomatic health in a situation of uncertainty. The research hypothesis about the connection between maladaptive manifestations of experiencing uncertainty with rumination, personal rigidity, external locus of control, low tolerance to uncertainty and low/high reflexivity was confirmed.
