Abstract: This article seeks to discuss whether the book Três mulheres de três pppês (1977), written by the famous film critic Paulo Emílio Sales Gomes, mobilizes issues dear to the tradition of the realistic novel. Although the book is not exactly a novel, since it is made up of three narratives that are tacitly articulated, we will try to investigate whether the amusing and apparently unpretentious marital stories written by Paulo Emilio during the civil-military dictatorship that began in 1964 have the potential to seriously represent Brazilian historical moments. We also want to speculate whether the texts in Três mulheres de três pppês undertake an aesthetic investigation into the reality of the country.
