Abstract: The purpose of this article is to reveal the development of the development ideal in Türkiye in the line of National Economy-statism. Therefore, the scope of the article is the years of National Economy, that is the period from 1923, when the national economy was accepted as a development project with the declaration of the Republic, to the end of the 1930’s, when the National Economy underwent a transformation and evolved towards statism. However, since the roots of the National Economy idea and the establishment of the National Economy-development relationship predate the early republican period, the period of time that we can call the late Ottoman period is also included in the scope of the article. In the context of this purpose and scope, the views in this article based on the data obtained through qualitative research techniques were examined with historical analytical method. According to the findings of the study; the idea of National Economy, which has been a subject of interest in the Ottoman Empire since the II. Constitutional Monarchy Era, was put into practice after the Party of Union and Progress came into power. With the establishment of the Republic, an economy in which the state was active on the basis of development was adopted and the national bourgeoisie, which formed the backbone of the National Economy, remained supported. However, triggered by the 1929 Depression, the National Economy policy underwent an evolution and on the basis of the ideal of development, the National Economy evolved towards statism.
