Abstract: The article considers the issues of the relationship between religion and school education that are relevant to Ukraine. Today, the issues of regulation have been resolved at the legislative level, but problems with their implementation at the practical level remain. In particular, subjects of a spiritual and moral direction have been introduced, but their provision does not take into account world developments in methodology. The models of interaction between religion and education adopted in the world can be divided into three main groups, each of which focuses on individual important aspects of such interaction. For Ukraine today, it is necessary not only to ensure the possibility of introducing a religious component into the general education system but also to clearly define its place and tasks, for which it is necessary to take into account both theoretical and methodological developments and practical ways of resolving controversial situations. Education of the individual has always been the most important problem in any state. In modern conditions, it is especially relevant: the rapid development of science, technology, and rapid reforms in the social and political spheres require a person to be highly professional, to have stable personal traits, in particular moral and volitional qualities (responsibility, civic position, independence, resilience and generosity, etc.). In this regard, it is important not only to build original models of education, to ensure the implementation of existing concepts of education, but also to appeal to the domestic theoretical and practical educational experience accumulated in the past. The issue of spiritual and moral education of the individual on the basis of Christian values is relevant for parents and teachers, as well as society, because in the process of assimilating Christian moral values, children learn goodness, mercy, and compassion.
