Compared efficacy of twelve registered preparations of ivermectin on the digestive and respiratory nematodes in Algerian sheep.
Year: 2009
Type: article
Abstract: Twelve different commercially available preparations containing ivermectinrecorded for the sheep were evaluated under Algerian field condition innaturally infected ewes. The faecal egg count reduction test (FECRT) car-ried out before and 10 days after the treatment was used in groups of ninenaturally infested ewes. The efficacy on the digestive trichostrongyles(Nematodirus sp. excluded) is, according to the method of calculation used, optimal (higher than 90%) for all the preparations or insufficient for 2 spe-cialities (83%-88%). On Dictyocaulus filaria the reduction of the larvalexcretion is excellent (95%-100%) with all the specialities. This efficacy isunrelated to the cost of the preparations. On Marshallagia marshalli ,Muellerius capillaris, Cystocaulus ocreatus and Neostrongylus linearis theefficacy is generally very low and sometimes totally absent. This could bedue to the method of evaluation. If a resistance of Marshallagia is probablein this farm, its weak prolificity makes its evaluation inadequate by thesetests of faecal egg count.
