Type: article
Abstract: Brazil has played an important role in the process of establishing and participating in peace operations, with the aim of maintaining peace, international security and better integration into international society. However, Brazilian participation in peace enforcement operations receives criticism from jurists and parliamentarians, as they consider it unconstitutional. The general objective of this research is to verify Brazil's participation in UN peace operations (1993-2011), based on its foreign policy principles. The study is relevant, as it allows us to verify the principles of Brazilian foreign policy (PEB) that guide the country's actions at the heart of these instruments for international peace and security. Therefore, the object of the research results in the following problem: Was Brazil's participation in UN peace operations guided by the principles of PEB? The hypothesis raised to resolve the problem is as follows: the country's participation in UN peace operations (1993-2011) was guided by the principles of PEB. Therefore, the country's participation was not unconstitutional. This research is qualitative, exploratory and bibliographic (doctrinal and documentary) and was developed through systematic content analysis. Furthermore, the figures used helped to synthesize and clarify the descriptive content. Theories of foreign policy analysis supported the research, concluding that the country's participation in UN peace operations in the period (1993-2011) were based on the principles of PEB, therefore, they were constitutional.
