Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This is a doctoral research report whose objective was to establish criteria for the regulation of football broadcasting. For this, we present case studies on how Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Portugal and Spain regulated the transmission of sporting events from 2001 to 2020. To achieve the objectives, this paper took the Political Economy of Communication and Culture as a theoretical-methodological basis, in order to present a qualitative research with a critical historical-descriptive profile that used bibliographical research and comparative study as technical procedures, correlating the cases found to seek valid equivalences and analysis scales. As a source of data collection, documentary research was used. It is concluded that it is necessary to renew the regulatory frameworks on the transmission of football matches, in order to consider it as a content of social interest, therefore, with some matches having to be transmitted in a free and live broadcasting service.
