Education with Movement and the Personal and Social Responsibility Model

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Based on the theory that underpins Positive Youth Development (PYD) and the concepts proposed by Donald Hellison in the Personal and Social Responsibility Model (PSRM), this study aimed to relate them to the pedagogical principles and objectives postulated by the Education with Movement programme, as a way of contributing to the pedagogical practice developed in public schools in Brasilia with children between the ages of four and ten. Professionals involved in the programme were interviewed using a qualitative approach, specifically documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews, to identify, analyse and bring together the theories that frame their pedagogical interventions in Physical Education classes with those presented by the DPJ and MRPS proposals aimed at developing competencies beyond the school context. The results showed a high number of intersections between the concepts, which, even though they were not explicitly mentioned in the formulation of the national and district documents, initially unknown to physical education professionals, found recognition in the interventions developed in this context. The structure presented by the MRPS stands out as a facilitator of this dynamic process. Finally, the involvement of all the professionals who deal with young children stands out, bringing together in a conscious way theories and practices capable of developing competencies and values for life.
