Abstract: The article presents the results of statistical assessment of the influence of per capita income on the Gini coefficient. The main part of the materials concerns the regions of the Volga Federal District of Russia and covers the period 2012-2023. For 57% of the regions of the Volga Federal District, a close direct relationship between the basic growth rates of per capita income and the level of social inequality was identified and statistically confirmed. The polynomial nature of the dependence was determined; for half of the regions, the rate of factor growth of the Gini coefficient is decreasing.
