Esporte Olímpico como tecnologia política

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has historically sought to maintain a discourse of neutrality, establishing recommendations and regulations with the aim of preventing the appropriation of Olympic sports for non-Olympic purposes. However, an analysis of the IOC's internal practices reveals a contradictory picture. On the one hand, there are indications of a political technology that serves a disciplinary, coercive and exclusionary system. On the other hand, there are also indications of a power structure that is characterised by quarrels, domination and the use of power. The objective of this article is to investigate how this modality of power was structured based on the analysis of official documents and decision-making processes, in the period from the creation of the IOC until the mid-1950s.
