Abstract: The paper studies the formation of national identification of the East Slavic population of Austria in the context of domestic policy in the 1840–1890s. The study demonstrates the formation of the national idea of the Eastern Slavs in the Austrian Empire and its transformation from a cultural and educational form to a political one.
