Phytochemical Study of Anti - Inflammatory Activities of Phytochemicals Present in Indian Herbs
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: A complicated biological reaction to dangerous stimuli like infections, damaged cells, or irritants, inflammation is frequently accompanied by pain, redness, and swelling.Although inflammation serves as a defense mechanism, persistent inflammation can result in a number of illnesses, including as cancer, diabetes, and arthritis.Because of their bioactive chemicals, which have antiinflammatory qualities, Indian herbs, with their diverse phytochemical profiles, have long been utilized to treat inflammatory diseases. The phytochemicals found in important Indian herbs such as ginger (Zingiber officinale), neem (Azadirachta indica), tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), and turmeric (Curcuma longa) are thoroughly examined in this chapter. It investigates their modes of action, which include cytokine regulation, antioxidant activity, and inhibition of pro-inflammatory enzymes (COX-2, LOX).The chapter also discusses advanced analytical techniques for phytochemical isolation and quantification, along with recent clinical studies supporting their efficacy. These findings underscore the therapeutic potential of Indian herbs in managing inflammatory diseases and highlight the need for further research to integrate these traditional remedies into modern pharmacology.
