Abstract: The article analyses the phenomenon of manipulation in the tragedy Odprawa posłów greckich [The Dismissal of the Greek Envoys] by Jan Kochanowski as well as universal rhetorical strategies used in persuasive practice from antiquity to this day. The aim of the presented educational and cultural project, tested in school and academic environment, is to show the mechanisms of creating the illusory subjectivity of recipients (“subjects’ pumping”) using rhetorical techniques based on appealing to strong emotions and shaping a simplified, polarised image of the world. The article will not only refer to history and literary tradition but also to research on demagogy and propaganda.
