Sound Similarities: Exploring Sonography in Veterinary Medicine

Year: 2025
Type: conference-abstract
Abstract: Sonography is a valuable diagnostic tool in veterinary medicine. Sonographic anatomy and examination protocols in animals can be very similar to those in humans. However, there are distinct challenges present when performing veterinary sonography, including the presence of fur limiting transducer contact with the skin, anatomic variations among species, combative animals, increased respirations and image motion, and increased bowel gas. Standard imaging optimization techniques can be utilized to assist in the diagnosis of trauma-related injuries and non-emergent pathology.
