Abstract: The fundamental technique of solvent extraction has been in use for more than a hundred years and the basic distribution laws were formulated by Berthelot and Nernst. However, in recent years this technique has gained considerably in importance. This has been due to the increase in complexity of materials, the demand for quick results and the phenomenal rise in the use of organic reagents in inorganic-analytical chemistry. The trend toward 'push button' instrumentation type of analysis only accentuated the need for concentration and removal of extraneous constituents. To meet this demand, chromatography, ion exchange, electrodeposition solvent extraction procedures gained equally in importance.
