Abstract: The review is devoted to some issues of the pathophysiology of acute dyspnea, its clinical manifestations, approaches to assessing severity, as well as some aspects of laboratory and instrumental diagnostics. Considered the use of oxygen therapy and non-invasive methods of respiratory support, which may be required in the process of providing care to patients with shortness of breath in a hospital emergency department.
