Abstract: Tiruppur, known as the "Knitwear Capital of India," is a vital industrial hub in Tamil Nadu, characterized by its vibrant textile industry and a predominantly working-class population. This study delves into household consumption patterns in Tirupur, emphasizing the influence of socio-economic factors such as income, occupation, education, and household composition on spending behavior. Particular attention is given to the distinction between essential (food and health) and discretionary (tobacco, liquor, and leisure) expenditures, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
