Methodology of Basic Geoinformation Support for the Function of Smart Garbage Collectors in the City Concept
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The article explores methods of basic geoinformation support for the functioning of smart garbage collectors within the framework of the smart city concept. The role of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in improving waste management efficiency is considered by optimizing collection routes, monitoring container fill levels in real-time, and forecasting waste generation. An analysis of foreign technologies and their impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and lowering operational costs is conducted. Attention is also given to the challenges of integrating GIS with existing waste management systems and possible directions for the future development of this technology. The rapid pace of urbanization has given rise to complex challenges in waste management, necessitating the development of more efficient and sustainable solutions. Within the framework of the smart city concept, smart garbage collectors represent a crucial innovation aimed at enhancing urban waste management systems. This article examines the methodology of basic geoinformation support for the functioning of smart garbage collectors, emphasizing the role of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in optimizing the entire waste management process. The application of GIS technology in waste management plays a pivotal role in achieving environmental sustainability and cost-efficiency, key objectives of the smart city initiative. Through the integration of GIS with smart garbage collection systems, cities can address several waste management inefficiencies, such as suboptimal collection routes, overfilled bins, and excess greenhouse gas emissions from collection vehicles. This research provides an in-depth exploration of how geoinformation systems, combined with smart technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), can transform waste management in modern cities. However, significant challenges remain in the widespread adoption of GISbased smart garbage collection systems, including high implementation costs, infrastructure limitations, and data security concerns. Despite these challenges, the future of GIS in waste management is bright, with emerging technologies such as AI and autonomous vehicles offering new opportunities for innovation and efficiency.
