A Novel Simulation Approach for Damage Evolution during Tailored Forming

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The component's damage is a common problem during tailored forming. It occurs frequently in forging and quenching processes. Traditional damage models are struggling to accurately and efficiently simulate large‐scale three‐dimensional models with a great number of degrees of freedoms. This article provides a new gradient‐enhanced damage model based on the extended Hamilton principle. It significantly reduces the computation time while ensuring mesh‐independence. This method is applied to predict the damage evolution during two abovementioned processes.
