Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Selfiecide, the phenomenon of deaths occurring while taking selfies, has emerged as a significant public health concern in the digital age. This research paper aims to explore the underlying factors contributing to selfiecide, including psychological, social, and technological influences, through a digital research approach.By conducting a comprehensive literature review using online databases, we identify patterns and trends in selfiecide incidents globally, highlighting the demographics most at risk.Empirical research, including case studies and incident analyses sourced from digital platforms, provides further insights into the circumstances leading to selfiecide. Our findings reveal that selfiecide is often driven by a desire for social validation and risky behavior encouraged by social media platforms. The discussion section compares our results with existing literature, offering new perspectives on prevention strategies. We conclude by emphasizing the need for increased awareness and education to mitigate the risks associated with selfie-taking.Recommendations for future research include exploring the role of technology in enhancing selfie safety and developing targeted interventions for high-risk groups. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on selfiecide and underscores the importance of addressing this issue to prevent further tragedies.
