Biomaterial Based Transport Layer for Organic Light Emitting Diode
Year: 2024
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: The demand for compact, efficient, and biocompatible Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) is rising, especially for bio-photonic applications like imaging, investigating, and treating living matter with light. OLED technology is mature enough to meet these needs, but medical applications also require biocompatible materials, sometimes even bio-based ones. Integrating biomolecules within OLEDs can reduce embedded energy and the carbon footprint. However, creating biomaterial-based OLEDs is challenging due to performance, fabrication, stability, and durability issues. This paper focuses on integrating biomolecule-based Transport Layer within OLEDs, specifically using carotenoid material. The study involves DFT quantum modeling to determine the structural properties of carotenoids, SILVACO TCAD for numerical modeling, and optimization of the structure to achieve the best performance.
