Abstract: The text aims to analyse the way in which the Polish novelist Jacek Dukaj’s novel Inne pieśni [Other Songs] reflects echoes of the originally Jewish concept of the golem, an artificial creature animated by man. It first briefly summarises various interpretations of the golem idea and briefly characterises the novel under analysis, before comparing selected motifs from the novel with the characteristic attributes of the golem (its specific ontological status, its imperfection, its resemblance to man, etc.). Finally, the text briefly mentions other golem motifs appearing in Jacek Dukaj’s work.
