Abstract: Optometry plays a vital role in eye care by addressing vision disorders and promoting ocular health. It is a crucial healthcare profession responsible for diagnosing, managing, and treating refractive errors and various ocular diseases. In India, the educational standards for optometry professionals have evolved significantly over the years. This paper explores the academic requirements, accreditation bodies, and challenges in optometry education in India, providing insights into the future of optometric training and professional development. This study concluded that Optometry education in India is expanding, but the need for standardized training and regulatory oversight remains crucial. Strengthening accreditation, enhancing clinical exposure, and promoting research will help establish optometry as a recognized and respected profession in India.
