Abstract: Models of student representation at universities and law faculties in the countries of the Western Balkan are revolving around several central topics. Using the comparative legal method, the paper analyzes the strategic position of student representatives within the framework of the higher education system and laws on student organizations. Normative bases for ensuring the autonomy of student representation are examined, as well as guarantees for student representation in the senate, council and other bodies of the university, the lecturing and scientific councils and other bodies of law faculties. Students’ representatives at the most prestigious universities and law faculties in the countries of the Western Balkans have active and passive voting rights. The paper also explores the sensitive issue of the exclusivity of student representative bodies in the field of electing students to bodies of universities and faculties. Higher education institutions are obliged to finance the work of student representative bodies, and these bodies also have special roles prescribed in detail by law and statute.
