The Influence of Collaborating with University to Patents Application on Patents Examination Duration

Abstract: A sound patent system is very important in economic development. Effective patent examination and an unbiased patent examination system can motivate inventors to do the innovation process. The quality and speed of examination are important factors for patent applicants. In this paper, we mainly research the influence factors on the examination duration in Shandong province of China. We mainly study the effect of cooperation, the participant of the university, the rank of the university, and the location of the university. We found a significant correlation between cooperation and longer grants as well as longer time to refusal. The participation of the university is negatively associated with the examination time to grant, and it is beneficial to reduce the time to grant. We hope the results can provide a reference for the applicants.
