Abstract: This text analyzes the political economy of the agro-export complex and its impact on national sovereignty. It highlights the transition from capitalism to its monopoly phase and the subordination of peripheral economies to the interests of central powers. The Paraguayan War is cited as a deindustrializing event for both Brazil and Paraguay. The agro-export economy, based on slavery and protectionism, is contrasted with the need for industrialization and national autonomy. The text also addresses the creation of the military-industrial complex (MIC) in post-1964 Brazil, as part of a "Brazil as a Power" project. This project sought military and technological autonomy but was influenced by international capital. The crisis of the nation-state and the expansion of multinational corporations are discussed as factors that limit the sovereignty of peripheral countries. The Scientific-Technological Revolution (STR) is presented as a new stage of capitalism, with profound impacts on production and the international division of labor. The decline of military-industrial complexes after the Cold War and the need to adapt to new environmental and social challenges are also central themes.
