Educação, Estado e classes sociais no Brasil
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article aims to elucidate Florestan Fernandes' ideas and reflections on the Brazilian educational system and the role of public school education in shaping society, as well as the role of the State concerning it. To this end, we have taken two of the author's reference works, namely Education and Society in Brazil, published in 1966 (the core of Florestan's sociology of education) and The Educational Challenge (a set of articles from the 1980s). The reflections presented here, as well as the choice to study Florestan Fernandes' works, are developments of the reflections we present in the text: Education in Marx: Formation of Consciousness, School and Class Struggle (2023).
