Abstract: The article describes the definitions of the terms "patriotism" and "patriotic education". Patriotism (from the Greek "patris") is love for the Motherland, devotion to one's Fatherland and people. The philosophical dictionary defines "patriotism" as one of the forms of dialectical combination of personal and public interests, unity of man and society. Patriotic education is a systematic educational activity aimed at forming in cadets a sense of patriotism, i.e. a good attitude towards the Motherland and towards representatives of a common culture or country. National and patriotic education of youth is a complex systematic and purposeful activity of state authorities, educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, the family and other social institutions in order to form in the young generation a high level of patriotic consciousness, a sense of loyalty, love for the Motherland, care for the good of the people, readiness to fulfill civic and constitutional duty to protect the national interests, integrity, independence of Ukraine, and support its establishment as a legal, democratic, and social state. The most important priority of national and patriotic education is the formation of a valuable attitude of the individual towards the Ukrainian people, the Motherland, the state, the nation. Society must realize that patriotic education is the basis of spiritual development of the individual, a component of the national worldview and behavior of a person (in our case, a future officer) in his (her) attitude to his (her) native country, to all nations and peoples. Patriotic education is a powerful stimulus in the struggle for victory and the development of a new independent Ukraine, the spiritual renewal of society, and the formation of high ethics of international relations. Loyalty to Ukraine is an integral sign of a nationally conscious citizen. The formation of patriotic feelings in a military unit, in the process of military and professional communication, means the development and strengthening of a high ideal of service and protection of one's people, readiness for a military feat in the name of freedom and prosperity of the state, the desire to see it free and independent. We will be ruled by the Ukrainian Cossacks, who with their incredible battles and victories, with their slogan "Either gain the will, or not be at home," laid the foundation of national and patriotic consciousness as an eternal example of patriotism and honor. Practical classes in the English language, as well as extracurricular activities on national and patriotic topics, can significantly influence the process of forming the patriotic culture of future officers. Cultural and educational events organized by the course officers should also contribute to this process.
