Reflection of Own Poetic Word in the Lyrics of Alexander Bashlachev

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The article examines the manifestations of self-reflection in the creativity of Alexander Bashlachev through the assessment of their own words by lyrical subjects. As the research material were used poetic and song texts created from 1981 to 1987: the poems “The light bulb shone. And the water dripped ...” / “To the Poets”, “And the work is absurd ...”, as well as the songs “Funeral of the Fool” and “Pastry”. In the course of the study were used motivic and comparative methods of analysis. The author of the article comes to the conclusion that in di erent periods the poet’s attitude to words (their strength or weakness) was not the same. At the beginning of his creative career, Bashlachev stated the uselessness of poets’ words, their needlessness to people around them. Later, the poet recognized their revitalizing and world-transforming power, which, however, is not available to every person. In the song “Funeral of the Fool”, only the title character is able to linger in the world of the living through laughter and a “crispy salty word”, as well as with their help to heal physically and morally those who gathered at the funeral. In the song “Pastry” lyrical subject expresses a kind of teaching to himself and the recipient on how to use the word to give love to everyone in the world. Bashlachev recognizes the existence of the Word with a capital letter, the word of God, which a person can “catch”, accept, and through it make the world warm for everyone. In his last text, “And the work is absurd ...”, the rock poet admits defeat in his desire to internalize the word, to turn it in the full sense into a conductor of his own ideas and an instrument of world transformation.
