Abstract: The article considers methodological approaches in the formation of leadership competence in the training future officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A leader's competence is the level of maturity required to perform a particular job, the set of knowledge and skills that he uses to achieve a goal or solve problems. In addition, the concept of "competence" as a basic quality of the individual is causally related to effective performance in work or other situations. Basic quality means that competence is a permanent (established) part of the personality that can determine a person's behavior in a large number of situations and work tasks. Causation means that competence determines and causes certain behavior and performance. Thus, the professional training of future officers-leaders is based on the competence approach - a new conceptual guideline that provides a gradual reorientation of the higher education system in higher military educational institutions to directly provide knowledge and skills to create conditions for mastering certain competencies, forming competent military professionals who are able to apply their knowledge in a changing environment, whose competence would be the ability to engage in continuing self-education. It is proved that the formation of leadership competence of future officers-leaders in domestic higher military educational institutions is a complex and dynamic process, the components and results of which are in constant motion, and its main goal is to move to a higher level of readiness economic conditions, but the process is not sufficiently scientifically sound, organized, coordinated and orderly.
