Petrophysical Properties of the Jeribe- Euphrates Formation in H. Oil Field, Southern Iraq

Abstract: Evaluating the reservoir properties of a formation or geological unit is an important element and an effective tool in leading a successful exploration program. The Early Miocene Jeribe-Euphrates Formation in H. oil field, Missan Governorate was selected as a study site, as it could account for a significant portion of the field's productivity. Four wells were selected, they are distributed over the field and represent two structural domes extending from the northwest to the southeast. The corrected and processed log data in an Excel sheet were used in the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the studied oil field, where data was processed using the Techlog 2015 software, which enabled us to represent the information quantitatively by computer processing interpretation. The cross-plot sections showed that the formation consists mainly of argillaceous carbonate rocks (dolomite) and sometimes of limestone with a small percentage of shale. The quantitative interpretation of the studied wells showed the possibility of dividing the Jeribe-Euphrates Formation into two reservoir units: the upper reservoir unit (JE-1), and the lower reservoir unit (JE-2). The upper unit was characterized by greater thickness and a higher percentage of shale volume, with average 17-35 %, while the effective porosity recorded moderate percentages ranging between 12–17 %. For the hydrocarbon saturation, it was represented by good percentages ranging between (61-72 %). Whereas, the lower unit (JE-2), it does not have a high rank of reservoir specifications despite the relatively low shale volume 4-19 %, and good effective porosity percentages 14-21 %, the high water saturation of this unit made it lose its reservoir quality.
