The Spatial Specificity and the Thematic and Formative Specificity of the Mosaic Floors’ Ornaments of Hisham Bin Abdul Malik Bin Marwan Mansion in Jericho

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Objective: In this study, the researcher attempts to analyze the floors aesthetically rather than mathematically as in most other studies that tackled such floors. Theoretical Framework: The researcher describes the floors with images from their source, explaining their shapes and describing their themes in a separate study. Method: Such study enables the researcher to address two specificities that present the main research problem. The first specificity is the effect of the acute viewing angle formed by the vertical line of the human body and his line-of-sight, which imposes itself for viewing floor’s paintings and ornaments. Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed [synthesize the main results of the research]. In the discussion section, these results are contextualized in light of the theoretical framework, highlighting the implications and relationships identified. Possible discrepancies and limitations of the study are also considered in this section. Research Implications: This angle distorts the realistic drawing and doesn't affect the geometric drawing. Most of the floor’s ornaments are geometric ornaments, so viewing the geometric shape from this angle changes it into another geometric shape. The second specificity is the ornamental theme of floors. Originality/Value: The researcher also classifies the ornaments according to the procedures of movement into five categories based on the movement of shape, line, point, shadow, and light. Furthermore, the researcher explains the importance of line in ornaments as it is predominant. The researcher classifies the ornaments into five types for a third time based on the line types.
