Care of Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease With Inadequate Response or Intolerance to Upadacitinib
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Upadacitinib (UPA) is an oral selective inhibitor for Janus kinase 1 approved for the treatment of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha–experienced patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Phase III trials of UPA showed remission rates approaching 50% with real-world studies reporting rates approaching 80%. These response rates represent important progress toward breaking the ‘therapeutic ceiling’ that has plagued IBD treatment, particularly for anti-TNF–experienced patients [1-4]. However, in clinical practice, the challenge has become managing those intolerant or unresponsive to UPA.
