Type: article
Abstract: This paper discusses a method for uniformizing the maximum inter-story drift angle of multiple seismic responses in elastic equivalent shear-spring models with untuned inertial mass dampers. First, the author proposes using pseudo-equivalent stiffness to assess the effect of untuned inertial mass dampers. Then, this pseudo-equivalent stiffness is applied to the method using closed-form representations of the primary mode, confirming the effectiveness of the control strategy for untuned inertial mass dampers. This allows for comparison with the damping effects of viscous dampers and demonstrates the potential for a wide range of applications of untuned inertial mass dampers.
