Abstract: After a long break, during the years of the enthronement of Catholicos of All Armenians Vazgen I, new relations began and developed between the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Vatican. The visit of the Armenian Patriarch to Rome was a great event in the history of inter-church relations of that period. In 1970 on May 8-12 His Holiness Vazgen I visited Rome. It is important to note that during all important meetings, His Holiness Vazgen I was accompanied by Cardinal Aghajanyan. It is noteworthy that the meeting between Cardinal Aghajanyan and Vazgen I was very fraternal. The relations between the Armenian Apostolic and Roman Catholic Churches were brought to a new level in the 20th century. That cooperation had a rather important and fundamental impact on the period, becoming a solid foundation for subsequent events, developments and ecumenical processes.
