Կոստանդնուպոլսի խորհրդաժողովի ձախողուման պատճառները / Reasons for the failure of the Constantinople conference

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article analyzes the conflicting interests within the Quadruple Alliance (Germany, Ottoman Turkey, Austria-Hungary, and Bulgaria), which escalated tensions in Transcaucasia in 1918. It details how the divergent objectives of these allies in the region—especially concerning the Batumi and Brest treaties—ultimately led to the failure of the Constantinople Conference. The article illustrates how these internal disagreements undermined the Alliance's unity, hindering joint political action in the region. The Constantinople Conference failed: that is, not only the work aimed at preparing the Constantinople Conference, but also the activities of the Armenian delegations were in vain, since, considering their own interests as paramount, the countries that initiated the conference adopted a tolerant and concessionary approach towards Turkey, making Armenian interests the main subject of concessions.
