Grain and forage productivity in maize [Zea mays L.] hybrids and varieties for the humid Tropic in México
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In Mexico exist grow demand of maize production for forage silage, during the low water period; For this reason, is important to identify genotypes with high potential of forage production and quality. The objectives of this research were: To know the grain and forage yield and agronomic traits for maize hybrids and varieties. From 2016 to 2023, there were evaluated maize genotypes across nine environments in Veracruz and Tabasco states; From the combined analysis for grain yield, there was found statistical significance at 0.01 of probability for Genotypes [G], Environments [E] and for interaction GxE. The best genotypes at 0.05 of probability were: SINT2BxVS-536, SINT4BxVS-536, SINT4BxSINT2B, with yield from 6.81 to 7.03 t ha-1 , similar to the commercial check H-520 6.80 t ha-1 . The varietal cross SINT4BxVS-536 registered forage yield of 51.49** t ha-1 , 8.72% more than H-520.
