Abstract: Our contribution aims to present aspects that attest the hijacking of Olympism by Nazism in the context of the Berlin Olympic Games. To do this, we will take as a basis articles published in the German press, as well as the so-called Presseanweisungen (“press instructions”), daily bulletins issued by the Ministry of Popular Education and Propaganda as pre-censorship instruments. We will also present a brief reflection on the Olympic Movement and the revival and updating of the Olympic ideal of Ancient Greece by Pierre de Coubertin, which allows us to glimpse its appropriation by a totalitarian regime that, contrary to Olympism, built a “showcase” of the “new Germany”, “a lover of peace” in times of preparation for war.
