Differentiating Diabetic Gastroparesis and Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome in People With Type 1 Diabetes
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) is recurrent nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain due to prolonged cannabis use. This study aimed to differentiate the significant overlap in presentations of diabetic gastroparesis (DG) and CHS in people with type 1 diabetes. It found that older age, longer diabetes duration, female sex, lower A1C, and presence of diabetic neuropathy are indicators favoring a diagnosis of DG over CHS in people with type 1 diabetes.
