Smartphone-Based Mindfulness with AI Support: Impact on Medication Adherence and Health Information Access

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Objectives: The potential of mindfulness exercises to enhance patient health outcomes is investigated in this study. It looks at how public hospital patients are encouraged to utilise mindfulness apps on their smartphones, especially for health information and prescription reminders. Theoretical Framework: "The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being." Mindfulness, a state of non-judgmental awareness, contributes to holistic health benefits. Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program highlights mindfulness's effectiveness in stress reduction and well-being. Smartphone applications enable personalized interventions that enhance patient adherence and overall health management. Method: The Scopus database and Biblioshiny performed a thorough literature review. Ten individuals with type II diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid disorders participated in a follow-up case study. These individuals took part in a trial that tracked gains in their general health, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications using smartphone applications. Cloud-based forms for health management made data collecting easier. Results and Discussion: The study revealed that mindfulness practices positively influenced patient self-care behaviours, stress reduction, and medication adherence. Improved self-compassion, emotional stability, and focus were noted by the participants. Digital tools also promoted improved communication between patients and providers and helped manage healthcare costs more effectively. Research Implications: Mindfulness interventions offer a scalable and accessible approach to patient care. Future studies needs to examine integration with larger healthcare systems and long-term impacts. Originality/Value: This study uniquely bridges mindfulness practices with digital personalization to enhance patient health outcomes, offering innovative strategies for digital health interventions in public healthcare settings.
