Abstract: A composite based on nanocrystalline cellulose from buckwheat was obtained, characterized by high sorption properties, environmental safety and low cost of manufacture. Cellulose modification was carried out with lactic acid. 9 groups of nanocrystalline cellulose samples with different soaking times in acid were synthesized, and the optimal time required for the most complete "grafting" of acid to cellulose was determined. The specific surface area of the composite material is calculated by adsorption of the Congo red dye. It was revealed that the specific surface area of the modified composite is not inferior to this indicator of many synthetic adsorbents, and even surpasses them in terms of environmental and economic indicators.
