Development of Animation Content on Chemical Bonding to Enhance Learning of Chemistry at Senior Secondary Schools in Bauchi, Nigeria

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Clinical Trial
Abstract: This study was carried out to address the issues of abstractions on the concept of chemical bonding in chemistry and ensure that students learn better. To address that, two research objectives were raised to guide the study: develop animation content on chemical bonding and test it on students to ascertain the impact it has on their learning outcomes. The process of developing animation content passed through three painstaking stages of production. The study used pretest-posttest design of quasi experimental research method where 140 students drawn from seven senior secondary school within Bauchi local government area were assigned to either the control group or experimental group. Both groups were pretested to ascertain their initial academic achievements. Thereafter, the experimental group received the treatment and both groups were post-tested to ascertain the effect of the developed animation content on the students. The results were analysed using independent sample t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The p-values from the respective schools are GHKUC with p-value of 0.0271; GCDSSB with p-value of 0.0242; GDSSMLK with p-value of 0.0255; GDSSBD with p-value of 0.0286; GDSSB with p-value of 0.0261; GDSSBF with p-value of 0.0434 and GDSSGVB with p-value of 0.0208. Since these p-values were less than 0.05 level of significance, it was concluded that the results were significant in each of the schools sampled. This means the developed animation content had a positive effect on students’ learning outcomes. Therefore, learning via animation should be integrated into the secondary school curriculum to enhance students’ assimilation and retention.
