Abstract: In Free Speech and Campus Civility: Promoting Challenging but Constructive Dialog in Higher Education, authors Jeffrey Buller and Robert Cipriano explore contemporary issues of free speech and campus civility on our nation's campuses. They explore case law, present relevant terminology, and move through several case studies to demonstrate the challenges presented within contemporary discourse on free speech and civility. In this exploration of case law and terminology, the authors position themselves as free speech absolutists and advance an activist viewpoint designed to support and amplify a majoritarian interpretation of free speech and campus civility that centers hegemonic speakers (cis, white men).We discuss the limitations and weaknesses inherent to this approach in this review.
