Abstract: ABSTRACT Marisa Scheinfeld's 2016 book, The Borscht Belt: Revisiting the Remains of America's Jewish Vacationland, is a visual communication package that offers a short history of the region's role in Jewish tourism and her photographs of the remaining hotels. This research examines how Scheinfeld created a book of remembrance while being optimistic in the regeneration of New York's Catskills. The Borscht Belt is told through an interpretation of a purposive sample of photographs that demonstrate Scheinfeld's photographic style and how the photographs are connected through their placement in the book. Additional background was provided by Scheinfeld through an interview with the author. The book is a vital connection between the region's history and its future.
